A while back, I decided that, if I make money at writing, I want to be able to give back. Writing is something I enjoy and if I can make money doing something I love, I want to do good with it. So I made a promise to myself that I’d donate 10% of the money I make at writing to causes around the world. And I want to be transparent and accountable with it. So here’s my first accountability post.
I already noted in earlier posts that I’d won a few writing competitions recently. The total income was $110 from those so here’s my proof of 10% to a good cause.
There are a lot of things I’d like to be able to help fix. Environmental causes. World hunger. Pollution. Education. Poverty and homelessness. The list goes on. Well, maybe I can’t fix them all myself, but I can find people who are helping and help them help. I know that you need to be careful to choose charities and organizations that actually use the money to help, not just for advertisement, paying themselves, and so on, which is why I like TeamTrees and TeamOcean who guarantee measurable change from their donations. This is hopefully just a start. Maybe one day I’ll plant my own forest. But every step begins small, every tree grows from a seed (or a cutting, sure, I’ll allow that but it’s still small), and every small change for the good is a step in the right direction.
